WHAT THE HECK IS "BACKCHANNELING" ?!?

"BACK_CHANNELING" is

...... using an online communication tool which allows students to chat with others during a learning activity with the purpose of engaging learners in rich and meaningful discussion about the activity (essentially, multi-tasking)

BACKCHANNELING can be used in different ways as a valuable tool according to the purpose:
  • by YOU to record your own notes during a meeting or presentation
  • by YOUR STAFF during a meeting to record thoughts, answer questions, make a list of actions to be taken afterwards
  • by your ENTIRE CLASS to collaborate in recording notes during a presentation, to ask questions, to get clarification, etc.
  • by INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS to record their own thoughts or answer questions during the watching of a learning video, etc.

Today's Meet: An incredibly easy-to- use tool, that allows your students to post questions, have a discussion, or make comments throughout an activity. Anyone signed into the room can respond to them. No logins are required for your students. Today's meet

This works very well in math activities. As the students are working through a problem, they can post questions for everyone to see, and other students may have the question answered before a teacher does. It also works well for sharing questions when working through a tricky grammar point in French class.
