F. Sharing the Journey: Blogging and using Social Media
Sharing Your Story and learning with others

BLOGGING:
* Blogging on existing Conservation Authority websites
Check out these examples:

  • Publishing permission for student images and data
* http://outdooredguys.wordpress.com__ mostly staff but a number of student contributions

* I"m thinking of suggesting they develop programs where kids contribute to their ongoing program blog - realize themselves contributing to ongoing conservation efforts - also a reason to check back in to the blog after the outdoor program - creating a relationship that wasn't possible before online world - will truly hook some students who are passionate about some aspect of it.

* The Peel District School Board is not using Google as a platform but Office 365 - as such all students and educators can speak and share with each other online. The Outdoor Ed Centres have created an internal office 365 SharePoint site called “Extending the Experience” where students/teachers can ask questions or carry on the discussion long after they leave the Centre.

As an example, a Gr 9 class added thoughts on their trip to a Padlet and posted it on this site. Field Centre staff responded by YouTube video and left them with a follow up question to answer: “An organism holds a niche, because - and only so long as - it makes better use of that place and time than any other organism. - Please give real life examples to this concept in your neighbourhood.” Students answered - creatively - by Vine (a six second video app. Although their field trip was October 24th - 4 weeks later their environmental education experience continues. This is being used by elementary classes as well (ie studying and sharing natural patterns, etc)
